- Construction development -
The brief was to redesign of the Kunsthall in Rotterdam by Rem Koolhaas in a more contemporary way.
We had to choose and analyse one of its elements and propose a different design strategy, with sustainability and bioclimatic criteria.
The strategy followed was to use a truss structure in timber to involve the importance of the sustainability of the materials in the design and a system of layers as façades: evapotransporative terracotta, double skin and solar filter. They aim at using passive methods to control the climatic and solar conditions of every space in the building.
Envelopes
- Construction development -
This development completes former project "The wall". Aiming at creating a significant variety of spaces and different materialities, I designed a number of physical layers that qualified the different spaces.
The combination of these envelopes result in different atmospheres whose characteristics are the result of the sum of the qualities of each of the envelopes used.
Concrete wall with brick masonry
The wall is partly covered with ceramic brick rigging its presence in contact with soil and sea. Like the wall formwork with wooden boards, it is used especially differenciate spaces making them more domestic
Vegetable mesh
Vegetation is also used as a sunscreen. Plant species are chosen specifically to obtain a certain degree of opacity.
Water drums wall
Just like some architects in the 70's that designed enclosures using water, I developed this system made of precast concrete pieces and water containers. The high thermal inertia of water is used for the conditioning climate strategy
Roof tiles mesh
Tiles are suspended between two metal mesh for solar protection
Flexi-brick system is used also as a sunscreen, the brick pieces are placed in the metal mesh, in different degrees of density, like a fabric. Horizontal rigging.

Privacy curtain
It is a suspended textile text with varying degrees of opacity creates different spaces of intimacy within a larger area

Water pot effect
By an evapotranspiration process water from the irrigation systems filters through the terracotta pieces, taking the heat energy from the inside and thus cooling it down.
